Tokyo Game Show 2022!

Last week, some of the Speech Graphics team had the honour of attending Tokyo Game Show 2022! This was an excellent opportunity for us to connect with gaming industry professionals from all over the world and show how our product works across a large variety of languages and dialects.

“It was fantastic to go to Japan, make a strong showing and be able to communicate directly with the people here (via translators),” said Michael Berger, Co-Founder, and Chief Technical Officer. “Our demos of SGX 4 were well received, and it was also satisfying to see the sheer volume of titles there already using SGX. We came with some beautiful recordings and visual demos in Japanese. Unveiling the Japanese 2.0 language pack, in Japan, and fine-tuning our settings and behavior modes for the Japanese context, was very effective and reinforced to me the value of our devotion to detail in language pronunciation and cultural context.”

Here we can see Emily showing off our demos! We were excited to be showcasing the latest version of our audio-driven facial animation solution - SGX. Including our Unreal plugin which allows animators to work directly in-engine, without the need to export animation files/data from MAYA. Also, the new Director module, which provides animators with the freedom to adjust and fine-tune facial expressions and outputs on a timeline editor, fully in line with their creative vision.

“Our schedule was packed with pre-arranged meetings, and the booth was at (and sometimes beyond) capacity for the entirety of the two days,” said James Scott, Chief Experience Officer. “I found a few brief moments to look around the exhibition. I couldn't help but feel immensely proud of how many prestigious titles were being showcased that used SGX to deliver the very best quality facial animation. Above all else, it was actually quite emotional to meet Japanese clients and prospects in person, after forming strong connections over Zoom and email over the past year."

A range of new demos has been prepared especially for TGS to show how well the system supports Japanese dialogue. Take a look below.

If you weren’t able to attend the show and catch us for a chat, get in touch via our submission form and we’ll schedule a call.
